Press Contact: Madisen's Match At West Bay Club Estero, FL. (February 25, 2009)—When West Bay Club tennis member Duane Chaney discovered his four-year-old niece Madisen was diagnosed with a brain tumor last year, he got pro-active. He saw what his family was going through and wanted to use his two passions in life—family and tennis—to make a difference. Duane teamed up with West Bay Club's Director of Tennis, Scott McCulloch, to create Madisen's Match. The event raised nearly ten thousand dollars for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation through The Tim & Tom Gullikson Family Support Fund. Scott McCulloch says, “Using tennis as a way to help the foundation has been gratifying beyond words—the event now has the framework and support of the southwest Florida tennis community and will grow in awareness and size with each passing year.” “Madisen's Match had the perfect start today at West Bay—the players absolutely rallied around the cause. Madisen received lots of hugs and love—and we've all become very attached to this cause,” said Cliff Drysdale, ESPN and ABC's tennis analyst and former U.S. Open doubles champion. Tennis legends Tom Gullikson, Mikael Pernfors, Murphy Jensen and Cliff Drysdale engaged the players throughout the day and made each person feel like they were a part of that elite legend category with their down to earth personality and love for the game. “We really could not have hand picked a better group of legends than the ones we had,” said Scott McCulloch, event co-founder. Event Founder, Duane Cheney shares, “This was just a phenomenal experience. One of the highlights for me was Murphy Jensen calling out before a serve, This shot's for you Madisen. My niece shouted back, Thank you!” Each day nine children in the U.S. are diagnosed with a brain tumor. For now, Madisen's condition has stabilized, though she continues to undergo MRI monitoring. “Words can’t even describe how moving the day was,” says Faye Abramson, Madisen's mother and sister to event founder Duane Chaney, “It felt really good to see how much people cared. Madisen was so happy.” For more information visit # # # |
